Plants establish quicker and failure rates are reduced
Totally organic and suitable for organic growing in your garden
Product Description
Mycorrhizal fungi are a remarkable group of organisms that have been benefiting plants for at least 500 million years. At the dawn of time when plants were just beginning to colonise our planet mycorrhizal fungi were there living in a symbiotic relationship with plants enabling them to extract nutrients and hold onto water in very difficult soil conditions. In effect, the fungus provides a secondary root system, a system that is considerably more efficient and extensive than the plants own root system.

SEASONAL AVAILABILITY - Bare Root plants are supplied from late November until Spring the following year.
CHARACTERISTICS - Carpinus betulus is known for its colour changing leaves which turn from a vibrant green in Spring/Summer to a burnt copper in Autumn/Winter. Catkins appear in Spring and develop small fruits to feed those hungry birds.
HEIGHT AND SPREAD - Supplied in their dormant state, Carpinus grows at 1-2ft per year and can reach up to 25m+ at full maturity, but can be pruned to a relatively low form of 1m if required.
PLANTING TIPS - Bare-Root hedging is typically planted in a double staggered row of 5 plants per metre. Evergreen plants are generally planted to less density than deciduous plants, such is the nature of their dense foliage.
Carpinus betulus is commonly known as 'Hornbeam' and is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays stunningly bright green foliage with deep veins in spring along with newly formed catkins that turn in to fruit for birds and wildlife. In Autumn/Winter the leaves turn brown/copper but stay on the tree to give adequate cover and shelter for wind and wildlife.
Hornbeam prefers well-drained normal soil, exposed inland or coastal. Carpinus grows at around 1-2 feet per year but can be pruned to a manageable size.
