Hedera Helix ‘Glacier’ is an English Ivy, grown mainly as a climbing vine or spreading ground cover. This elegant climbing shrub trails seamlessly throughout landscapes and looks gorgeous sitting in containers. Its evergreen tri-colour green leaves look very attractive with silver-white margins, turning dark green in winters.
Glacier English Ivy supports an aerial root system, clinging on to vertical surfaces and climbing effortlessly. This climbing habit makes it excellent for covering slopes, old shady walls and has many other applications in the garden.
Plant English Ivy near a fence or train it along a trellis to grow upwards. Ivy is invasive by nature, it will spread, trail and climb to cover walls, ground, old trees and slopes. Prune it regularly to keep this invasion in control. It will perform well in full sun or shade.
These vines will thrive in a wide range of soils, but they prefer loam-based soils particularly with plenty of moisture. Add a liquid fertilizer when the plants are young. Once they establish, they will be able to tolerate drought conditions.
Hedera Helix Glaciers looks great in containers, beds or as ground covers. Grow them indoors in hanging baskets, or take the thrill of them climbing outdoors to watch them trail as tall as 15 metres in height.
