Characteristics: A vigorous, deciduous fruit shrub with mid-green leaves and small white flowers in spring. Plump, red gooseberries are ready to harvest in midsummer and can be eaten or used in cooking.
Growth and Spread: This plant can reach an ultimate height of 2.5-4m and an ultimate spread of 1.5-2.5m.
Care and Maintenance: Plant in moist, well-drained chalky, loamy or sandy soil in full or partial shade.
Period of Interest: Foliage blooms each spring, before turning yellow-orange in autumn and dying away over the winter months. Flowers bloom in early spring and fruit is ready to harvest in midsummer.
Gooseberry Ribes Uva-Crispa Captivator is a vigorous fruit shrub, perfect if you’d like to grow your own gooseberries in the garden. This is a deciduous plant, so mid-green, lobed leaves bloom in spring, turning yellow-orange in autumn, before dying off over the winter months and returning each spring. Small, white flowers bloom from march until April, followed by juicy, plump, deep red gooseberries which are ready for harvest in midsummer.
Plant Gooseberry Ribes Uva-Crispa Captivator in moist, well-drained chalky, loamy or sandy soil in a shaded or partially shaded area in the garden. From July onwards, dark burgundy gooseberries are ready to be picked, which can be eaten fresh or used in cooking for making jams and sauces.
