Euonymus europaeus 'Red Cascade' offers all-year round interest with an exquisite changing colour display of leaves, fruits and flowers. If your winter garden is dull, sad and boring, the Red Cascade spindle tree will bring back the life, interest and joy that you want.

In summer, small, relatively insignificant greenish-yellow flowers turn to bright pinky-red ornamental fruits that peel open to reveal dark orange seeds inside. The foliage is dark green and contrasts beautifully with the orange fruits. As autumn approaches, the leaves turn fiery shades of yellow and red and then fall in winter, leaving the brightly coloured fruits on the bare branches creating a dramatic look for any garden.

In 20 years, your Euonymus europaeus 'Red Cascade' will have reached maturity and grown to a rounded tree with a height of about 3m and a spread of about 3m. It is a fully hardy plant and will tolerate a range of sites including full sun, partial shade, exposed or sheltered areas. It is happy in most soils but does best in moist but well-drained soils.

Plant Red Cascade to create winter interest or to form a border that blocks out an unsightly neighbour’s backyard or a dull fence. They are great for hedgerows and one can also be planted alone as statement piece where it will stand out in a sleeping winter garden.

The stunning Red Cascade spindle tree gets its name from the fact that the wood was used in the making of spindles in times gone by.
