Common Alder Bare Root Hedging

• SEASONAL AVAILABILITY - Bare Root plants are supplied from late November until Spring the following year.
• CHARACTERISTICS - Alnus glutinosa is a native shrub known for it's glossy dark green foliage and reddish dark brown catkins. This plant also has nitrogen fixing properties.
• HEIGHT AND SPREAD - Supplied in their dormant state, Alnus grows at 1-2ft per year and can reach up to 2-5m+ at full maturity.
• PLANTING TIPS - Bare-Root hedging is typically planted in a double staggered row of 5 plants per metre. Evergreen plants are generally planted to less density than deciduous plants, such is the nature of their dense foliage.

Alnus glutinosa is commonly known as 'Common Alder' and is an extremely popular UK native shrub hedge that displays dark green leaves. This plant also has a wonderful display of yellow/red catkins that form on the tree and will form brown cones. These plants are excellent for very wet areas of soil in your garden and can even be planted in coastal areas.

Common Alder prefers any type of soil even extremely wet conditions. Alnus grows at around 1-2 feet per year and will eventually get to 2-5 metres in height if left alone. These shrubs can be pruned in order to keep them tidy.
