Cara' Main Crop Seed Potatoes are oval-round in their shape, with distinct red-eyed tubers and soft, golden-brown flesh. They can be used effectively when baking and chipping, whilst also being resistant to disease and can withstand periods of drought extremely well. You will find that these potatoes will harvest in the months of August - September. Late March is when they should be planted, in a sheltered plot in the garden where moist, well-drained soil is present. Although, If you have limited space, you can also grow them in potato bags on a patio.
When you grow Main Crop Seed Potatoes, you should avoid planting them in the same plot where potatoes have been grown for two years in succession. The area should be sheltered with full sunlight, moist, well-drained soil and well rotted manure all present. The potatoes should be planted in rows, spaced out by 45cm. The rows themselves should be spaced out by 75cm. Then, plant the seed potatoes in 10cm deep holes and refill them with soil. Once their shoots reach 20cm, mound up the soil around the shoots. Repeat this process after another 3 weeks of growth.
