The Camellia Japonica “Golden Anniversary” has an exquisite double-petalled flower. It has a rich ivory colour to its petals which are laid out in an intricate swirling pattern. The blossoms are absolutely mesmerising.
In addition, being an evergreen, the glossy green leaves will be present year-round and add a vibrant note of green to your garden during some of the more drab grey and brown months.
The plant does well in partially-shaded areas, which offer protection, but allow regular moisture to be available. One ideal situation for this plant is to use a carefully maintained pot that allows for a more acidic soil while retaining moisture, but drains well.
With winter protection in colder climates, the Camellia species is able survive and thrive. And even more importantly, produce its beautifully ornate blooms in late-Winter and Early-Spring. However, this is why placement is critical for the planting area. In addition to being sheltered and protected for winter, this plant needs to avoid exposure to the rising sun as this can cause the blooms to spoil while there is still frost.
