This mixed hedge selection is made up of a number of bare root hedge species. Please see below for a breakdown of the varieties included in this mix.

Prunus spinosa is commonly known as 'Blackthorn' and is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays large clusters of vibrant white flowers in Spring before showing off wonderful bright green foliage in Spring/Summer. Blackthorn has edible sloe berries that are used in the making of sloe gin. If the berries are left alone you will have an aray of wild birds showing interest in clearing out your berries as they provide wild birds with a protective area for nesting as well as feeding. This can also act as a great deterrent for intruders as the thorns that protrude from this spiny hedge will not let anyone through unharmed.

Rosa rugosa canina is commonly known as 'Dog Rose' it is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays vibrant bright green foliage with light pink flowers that fade to white. Once the flowers fall this plant produces colourful rose hips that are red and orange in colour. These rose hips produce excellent winter feeding for wildlife and wild birds as they are filled with delicious seeds. Rosa also known as "Wild Briar" or "Wild Rose" is a very fast growing species with a rambling habit and as they are filled with thorns make an excellent barrier to keep intruders out.

Fagus Sylvatica is commonly known as 'Green Beech', 'Common Beech' or 'European Beech', it is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays stunningly bright green foliage in spring before showing off wonderful copper/bronze leaves in Autumn. Fagus will often keep it's leaves all year round, giving you the benefits of a colourful dense screen hedge throughout the year.

Corylus avellana is commonly known as 'Hazel' it is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays vibrant large bright green foliage in Spring before showing off wonderful golden leaves in Autumn. Hazel has long golden yellow catkins that appear in January through to march and they are commonly known as lambs tails. Corylus can produce edible nuts and if these are required then you will need to retain some or most of the catkins to produce these nuts. The nuts fully ripen in autumn and are a perfect snack for squirrels. Corylus avellana supports over 70 species of insects as well as the dormouse (dormice), moths and squirrels.

Prunus Avium, more commonly known as ‘Wild Cherry’, ‘Sweet Cherry’ or ‘Gean’, is a well-known species of bare root hedging that displays broad, green foliage in the spring which turns to a vibrant yellow and red in the autumn. Prunus Avium bears clusters of small, pure white flowers in spring which give way to small, shiny, purple-red cherries throughout the summer.

Crateagus Monogyna is commonly known as 'Hawthorn', 'Quickthorn' or 'Whitethorn', it is an extremely popular UK native hedge that displays vibrant white flowers spring/summer before showing off wonderful red haws (berries) in Autumn/winter. The sharp thorns are a great intruder deterrent as well as being a safe area for birds and other wildlife to nest and shelter.
