Characteristics: Clump-forming, upright herbaceous perennial plant with lobed mid-to-dark green foliage and burgundy-red flowers with surrounding bracts from early Summer.
Growth & Spread: Ultimate height and spread of 0.1 Ð 0.5m.
Period of Interest: Summer and Autumn interest. Branching stalks holding rich burgundy-red flowers consisting of domed clusters of tiny florets encircled by narrow bracts from early Summer through to Autumn.
Water & Maintenance: Plant in retentive, humus-rich, fertile, well-drained soils. Keep in full or partial sun in a sheltered position. Tolerates drier conditions once established, though not fully drought tolerant.
Boasting rich flower colour and a long blooming period , the Astrantia ÔVeniceÕ, also known by the common name of ÔMasterwortÕ, is an upright herbaceous perennial shrub with deeply divided, mid-to-dark green foliage that sits in clumps beneath the branching stems which carry deep burgundy-red or purple flowers consisting of rounded panicles of tiny florets above a ring of long, narrow bracts. These flowers are some of the longest flowering Astrantia, lasting from early Summer right through to the start of Autumn.
Plant in moisture retentive, humus-rich, fertile, well-drained soils and keep in full or partial sun in a sheltered position. Tolerates drier soils and conditions once established but does not tolerate drought conditions.
