The Malus domestica ‘Kidd’s Orange Red’ is a late-season popular variety of garden apple, it is known for being a sweet apple but dissimilar to other sweet apples it has an intricacy to its flavours also.
Kidd’s Orange Red is mainly eaten fresh; however, it also produces a high-quality juice which is pleasantly thick texture.
Apple are one of the easier fruit trees to grow and are increasingly becoming more popular with gardeners. They are medium sized deciduous trees with flashy Spring flowers and ornamental or edible fruit in the Autumn.
Apple trees benefit from growing in slightly sheltered, sunny area, as the blossom will attract a large variety of pollinators as well as the sun will help ripen the fruit.
Mr Kidd bred this variety of apple in the 1920’s from Cox’s Orange Pippin and Red Delicious. It was brought to the UK in 1932.
