The Malus domestica ‘Jupiter’ is a late-season popular variety of garden apple, it is considered a good alternative to Cox’s Orange Pippin, to which it is closely related. The Jupiter has yellowy-green skin which turns a golden-yellow with a red flush as it matures.
Fruits from the Malus domestica ‘Jupiter’ can often be shaped irregularly and heavily russetted. The flavour is excellent, inheriting the fragrant qualities from Cox’s Orange Pippin – but more distinct.
Apple are one of the easier fruit trees to grow and are increasingly becoming more popular with gardeners. They are medium sized deciduous trees with flashy Spring flowers and ornamental or edible fruit in the Autumn.
Apple trees benefit from growing in slightly sheltered, sunny area, as the blossom will attract a large variety of pollinators as well as the sun will help ripen the fruit.
Introduced in 1966, Malus domestica ‘Jupiter’ is the result of crossing varieties of Cox’s Orange Pippin and Starking Delicious.
