The Malus domestica ‘Ellison’s Orange’ is a mid-season dessert apple, it is known for its subtle aniseed note which enhances it fragrant intricacy. The Ellison’s Orange is closely related to Cox’s Orange Pippin but with considerably juicier flesh. It is a gorgeous orange flush which is typical of English apples.
Apple are one of the easier fruit trees to grow and are increasingly becoming more popular with gardeners. They are medium sized deciduous trees with flashy Spring flowers and ornamental or edible fruit in the Autumn.
Apple trees benefit from growing in slightly sheltered, sunny area, as the blossom will attract a large variety of pollinators as well as the sun will help ripen the fruit.
Ellison’s Orange was developed by Rev. Ellison in Lincolnshire England, at the start of the 20th century. It was developed from Cox’s Orange Pippin and its other parent is believed to be one of the Calville varieties.
