The Malus domestica ‘Egremont Russet’ is a late-season versatile apple, that is most commonly used in savoury salads and is often paired with cheese. Its flesh is drier than most cooking apples, it also has a distinct nutty flavouring.
Egremont Russet much like other Russet apples is good for juicing, due to the apples not being typically juicy you would require a high quantity of them. The resulting juice is rich, thick and very sweet.
Apple are one of the easier fruit trees to grow and are increasingly becoming more popular with gardeners. They are medium sized deciduous trees with flashy Spring flowers and ornamental or edible fruit in the Autumn.
Apple trees benefit from growing in slightly sheltered, sunny area, as the blossom will attract a large variety of pollinators as well as the sun will help ripen the fruit.
The official breeder of Egremont Russel is unknown, the name would suggest that it was bred on the estates belonging to Lord Egremont of Petworth, Sussex.
