• Characteristics: Dense, deciduous shrub that can be grown as a small tree. The leaves initially show a bright red colour, turning purple-red or red-green as it matures. Foliage then returns to red in Autumn.
• Growth and Spread: Ultimate height of up to 4m and spread of 1.5 - 2.5m.
• Care and Maintenance: Acers prefer partial shade, so avoid prolonged exposure to full sun. It will tolerate most soil types, as long as this remains well-drained and watered well.
• Period of Interest: Foliage is red during both Spring and Autumn. In between, throughout Summer, they take on a purple-red or red-green.

Acer palmatum Twombly's Red Sentinel is a deciduous shrub with leaves that vary in colour throughout each season of the year. The foliage emerges showing a bright red colour initially, before turning purple-red or red-green as it matures. Red then returns for Autumn to give it an eye-catching appearance during that period. This plant can be grown as a small tree and will reach an ultimate height of 2.5 - 4m and spread of 1.5 - 2.5m.

Acers can be cared for with relative ease. Plant in an area of partial shade and aim to avoid long periods of exposure to full sunlight. It can tolerate most soil types, requiring you keep it moist, well-drained and ensure watering is kept to a regular, consistent level.
