Characteristics: Bushy, deciduous shrub with lobed foliage that appears yellow-green in Spring. Yellow and orange shades take over in Autumn, then the leaves will fall to expose its lovely, golden-yellow and orange stems.
Growth and Spread: Ultimate height and spread of up to 2.5m.
Care and Maintenance: Acers prefer partial shade, so avoid prolonged exposure to full sun. It will tolerate most soil types, as long as this remains well-drained and watered well.
Period of Interest: Flowers appear in Spring. Orange and yellow stems all-year-round, whilst the foliage colour differs from Spring to Autumn.
Acer palmatum Bi Ho is a deciduous shrub with leaves that vary in colour throughout the year. Its lobed foliage appears yellow-green shade in Spring, right through to Autumn when yellow and orange takes over. After this, the foliage drops off to show beautiful golden-yellow and orange stems throughout Winter. The plant can be grown as a small tree and will reach an ultimate height and spread of 1.5 - 2.5m.
Acers can be cared for with relative ease. Plant in an area of partial shade and aim to avoid long periods of exposure to full sunlight. It can tolerate most soil types, requiring you keep it moist, well-drained and ensure watering is kept to a regular, consistent level.
