Characteristics: Japanese Acer cultivar with deciduous, green, attractively lobed foliage that turns red in autumn.
Growth and Spread: Ultimate height of around 6m, maximum spread of around 6m.
Care and Maintenance: Your Acer Acontifulium will thrive in moist but well-drained soil composed of Chalk, Clay, Loam or Sand. Place in full sun or partial shade.
Period of Interest: Red flowers in spring, followed by characteristic winged fruits in autumn. Green foliage turns crimson red in autumn.
Acer Acontifolium, also known as Full Moon Maple or Downy Japanese Maple, is a large, deciduous shrub with a bushy habit. Its distinctive, rounded green leaves flaunt deeply cut lobes. The attractive foliage will go on to turn a deep, crimson red come autumn.
This Acer variety was originally popular under the name ‘Maiku Jaku’ (meaning ‘Dancing Peacock’ in Japanese), but gradually the latin name ‘Acontifolium’ has gained traction and become the more well-known way of referring to the cultivar.
